A Game Type Thing

So, in order to keep this page from dying again, I thought I’d post more neglected art of mine.

Freshman year of UCSC I helped to some work on this game. Mostly I did the art bits because I knew how that worked. Eventually the thing worked and I was pretty proud of the damn thing.  I think it’s kinda fun going back through my old sketches and seeing how things worked out.

These were the titular characters: Hip Kid and Robot. I was quite proud of them as I recall. In fact, I still quite like them. They seem so innocent and full of potential.

This is pretty much all the concept art that went into this. We were on a pretty tight deadline, but I got lucky and managed to come up with something I liked on the first coupled tries. In fact, I probably like it more because I didn’t have time to think about it.

Here’s the full color version of the enemy robot. The light bulb on his head was supposed to be the key to killing him, so you’d drop crates on him and stuff using the Robot’s laser.

And here’s the final boss, designed after playing too much Castle Crashers. Dan Paladin’s art really got to me for a while. This boss fight was my favorite part of the game, I may find a way to show you all the whole thing so I don’t wanna spoil it just yet.

And finally here’s a concept sketch of how the levels would work, it really didn’t come out quite that complex, but the core ideas were there. I wouldn’t mind doing more game design type stuff, so if anyone out there needs a game artist, HIT ME UP FOOLS.
